From Ohio With Love...meet our new puppy!

Look who we picked up at the airport last week!

Photos at 9 weeks

He just bounced out of the crate & started playing! With the sweetest personality, a gorgeous lean head and the plushest, fuzziest coat with flashy markings to boot, this striking little boy is everything I could have hoped for!

He's sired by Am/Can Ch Jade Mist Belmark Braggin Rights and is still waiting for us to come up with the perfect name for him :)

Thank-you again Bella for letting him come to Canada and join our family!

This Time Last Year (puppy video)

It's looking like Spring has sprung here...the blossoms are all on the plum trees, the bulbs are starting to bloom, the birds are singing, and the grass is in need of a good mowing! Finally we can go outside without our rain boots.

While we're obsessively checking the girls every day for early signs that they're in season...no, no....we mustn't admit that....patiently waiting for our girls to come in, I thought I'd share this little video of Tasha's first puppies at this same time last year!

Buddy, Seren and Shiraz - March 2010

Why is it that time seems to go by so quickly for some things - like how fast these little guys grew up, and other things just seem to take forever? I guess it's really true that patience is a virtue, and when it's in the hands of Mother Nature, all we can do is wait!

So yes, we are planning two litters later this Spring from our girls Tasha and Aimee, and as soon as we have news to share, we'll be sure to post it here! :)

Better Than Tennis Balls

All our dogs love playing with balls....they start as young puppies by rolling them across the floor and use their feet to swat them back and forth (good practice for the much larger soccer balls later on!)

We used to let them play and chew on tennis balls, but a couple of years ago there was an article in Dogs In Canada magazine about how the fuzzy green covering is super abrasive, and the doggie dental expert explained how destructive it is for their tooth enamel.

So what's a tennis ball-loving dog to do?
We've found two great alternatives...the turnup, and soft road hockey balls.

The turnup is made from natural latex rubber, and isn't perfectly round, so you never know which way it's going to go next . If it rolls under furniture, it often comes right back, boomerang-style, and they absolutely love that!

I really like that it's natural and eco-friendly. We're all about being green, we recycle, compost, use natural cleaning products, and recently began switching our incandescent light bulbs to the compact fluorescents in our recessed lighting fixtures. British Columbia has already banned the sale of 75W and 100W incandescent light bulbs to push people to make the change.

"Tasha..move fast and block that shot!"

The orange road hockey balls (in soft - there are different types) withstand loads of abuse, but they're not solid and have "give" to them. The doggies love to gnaw on them and they're super easy to find here in Canada. We get ours from the hardware store, and they're under $1.50 each.

La-Z-Boy

Reilly the Sheltie is having a fun contest on his blog, and to enter you need to post a photo on your blog of your doggy sleeping.

"THE CHALLENGE - What we want to see is the funniest, cutest or most adorable pictures you have of yourself sleeping - all four feet in the air, laying in the sunshine, on the arm of the sofa, with your head on the pillow, curled up in a flower garden, snuggled in a blanket, in a box - what ever."

This is Seren when he was a puppy. I was giving him a little brushing and had my feet up on another chair. He stretched out on my legs, then fell asleep...suspended above the floor :)

Valentine's Leash Giveaway!

We're so happy to be announcing the details of our first giveaway!  We were thrilled when CSN Stores contacted us, offering to sponsor a giveaway for our readers! They have such an incredible selection of pet accessories, choosing an item was difficult. When we saw this fun heart patterned leash, the decision made itself....a Valentine's giveaway!

Here's what you could win:

This leash is so CUTE!!! I love mine! The pattern is woven into the nylon webbing with red and silver metallic thread on one side, and is solid black on the other side. I tend to have practical (plain) leashes for everyday use and walks, so this will be my "good" leash when we're walking in town :)

The leash is made by Lupine, and the pattern is called "Love Struck".
It's 6 feet long, 1/2" wide, and is for pets up to 20 pounds or so (perfect for a Sheltie).

An amazing thing about Lupine brand is that they have a LIFETIME GUARANTEE. If the leash is accidentally damaged in any way, even if chewed, they will send you a free replacement when you mail them the damaged one. Wow...now that's a guarantee!

My leash was sent to me for review purposes and the giveaway leash is also sponsored by CSN Stores.

Guidelines:

1. Open to Canadian, U.S. and International readers! Everyone can enter!

2. The giveaway will end Monday, February 14th, 2011 at Midnight PST.

3. The winner will be announced Tuesday, February 15th, 2011 and contacted by me so we''ll know where to mail the leash to :)

How to Enter:

To enter the giveaway please fill in the form below.

The winner will be chosen at random by a number generator.  Good luck everyone!
Thank you CSN Stores for sponsoring this great giveaway!
